Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV) “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Fasting and prayer sharpen the blade, which is the Word of God. When you fast & pray, you have an increased desire to study the Word of God and God begins to show you deeper truths. In Ephesians 6:10 God says, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”
Fasting and prayer keep us razor sharp, fit, healthy, alert, and ready as a soldier for the Lord. Without the fire of the Holy Ghost that comes from fasting, though unfortunate, we begin to live like retired military, growing comfortable and gradually falling out of fighting shape, unable to wear our armor. Our sword becomes dull and our lives find joy in comfort.
We stop fighting because we are using dull blades to fight demonic powers. When you fast and pray you effectively sharpen The Word in your mouth. No longer flippantly quoting scripture, you now wield a powerful weapon; a razor-sharp double-edged sword that slashes and destroys the enemy when you speak.
- DO NOT settle for a dull sword.
- DO NOT settle for an absence of fire in your life.
- Keep your armor fit and your blade sharp.
Be alert and ready by allowing the sword of the Spirit to release beauty for ashes, joy for mourning, and the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. Let God sharpen patience in your life, sharpen His priorities in your life, loose angelic messengers, and strengthen you to be the soldier in heaven’s army that He has called you to be.
Don’t stop sharpening your blade!
Much love, Ps Aaron Lucas
